Views of Vienna

During my year as a Fulbright scholar in Austria, I balanced the two parts of my combined grant: teaching lessons on the English language and American culture at two secondary schools and researching how everyday fashion and theater costumes influenced each other in early-nineteenth-century Vienna. Yet impressed by the beauty of the city, I also tried to set aside a few hours each month to draw. I sketched these images from statues, paintings, buildings and more around Vienna or wherever my travels took me. Time and material constraints dictated that I could render some drawings to a more finished state than others, but I hope that I captured splendor of a city that I, for one special year, could call home.
